Split decisions

The Garrett Girls Soccer team got another win tonight defeating the Angola Lady Hornets by  a score of 4-1. After a 2-1 half time lead, the girls dominated the second half with scoring two goals and shutting out the Hornets.  Kelly Singleton continues to improve in goal and had several great saves.

The Lady Railroader Volleyball team were defeated by Carroll High School tonight 3-0.  We don't have a very good record against NHC teams.  But, when you consider they are HUGE schools with many girls who are one sport athletes, we did ok.  Hopefully we can learn from them and roll when we get to the ACAC and tournament.

This week at GHS!

The Boys Soccer team gets the week started traveling to Lakewood Park on Monday and then making the trip to South Adams on Tuesday.  Both games begin at 5pm.

The Girls Soccer team has a single game this week when they host the Angola Lady Hornets on Tuesday.  The game starts at 6pm.

The Lady Railroader Volleyball team has the busiest schedule of the week when they travel to Central Noble on Monday night. Then they host the Carroll Chargers on Tuesday.  They finally end the week on Thursday when they host the Fremont Lady Eagles.  All of the games start off with JV at 6pm, followed by the Varsity at approximately 7pm.

The Railroader Varsity Football team hosts the Southern Wells Raiders on Friday Night.  The Youth Football teams will be recognized at halftime of the game. The freshman will play at Wawasee on Thursday and will also be recognized at the game on Friday.  They will be recognized before the game.

The Big event of the week is the annual fundraiser at the Labor Day Auction at the Auburn Auction Park.  We start parking cars on Wednesday at 7:30am.  We work every day through Sunday.  We always start at 7:30am and end around 6pm.  IF you have any free time and would like to donate your time to the athletic department,  Contact the athletic office or just show up!  All workers should report to the "Dove Farm" property which is located a few yards to the east of the main entrance to the auction.  We will transport all workers to their work location.  We always need workers on every day!

Learn from a loss!

We had a tough loss against Wawasee tonight!  We had moments where we played well and we had moments............well, let's just say we had OTHER moments!  I think we learn something new about ourselves when we compete. If we can learn what our weaknesses are and adjust, we will be fine.  I am sure the coaches and players will adjust and adapt to get better in the areas we are weakest and key on our strengths!  The good news is we came back from a 26-7 deficit late in the game to make it respectable and really had a chance to win the game.  Good Luck next week against the Southern Wells Raiders!

Busy night

I don't have all the details but the girls battled to a 3-1 loss to East Noble in Varsity Volleyball tonight at Garrett.  The Girls Soccer team soundly defeated South Adams 9-1.  The Freshman boys team lost to Lakeland but I do not have the final score.  I have not gotten a report from the Boys Soccer team who faced South Adams at Berne tonight. I am full of PARTIAL information tonight!  Our Students have been working hard and have all been competitive.  Games have been fun to watch and I can see pride in every team!  ROLL BIG TRAIN!

VB Domination

The Volleyball continued their winning ways by DOMINATING the Lady Eagles of Columbia City.  The Lady Railroaders (4-1) won in three straight games in convincing fashion , 25-16, 25-15, 25-17.  Great job Ladys.  Coach Richardson said it was the first complete game they have played all year!  I second that!

The Lady Railroader Soccer team also defeated Heritage tonight in the opening game of the ACAC Soccer season.  The final score was 2-1.  Kady Hahn had an assist and a goal.  I think it was Kelsi Martin who scored the goal on a rebound off of the cross bar.

The Boys Soccer team was defeated by Heritage but fought through regulation to a 2-2 tie.  They lost in the final seconds of the second overtime.  This team is greatly improved and has some really talented soccer players.  IF you haven't seen them play, you should make plans to come and watch a game.  Keep working at it Railroaders!

Great Start!

The Railroader Football team got a great win tonight over Cross County Rival Eastside Blazers.  A very tough fought game with the Railroaders coming out on top 42-21.  Todd Frickey had over 250 yards to lead the Railroaders.  Great rival, Great start to the season.

Scores!

Lakeland defeated the Railroader Boys Soccer team tonight at home 5-3.  Tonight Nathan Sliger scored all 3 goals for the Railroaders.  The Girls Lost at Columbia City to Columbia City.  Maybe the Director of Soccer Operations knows the final score. I do know that Heather House scored the  lone goal for the Railroaders with an assist from Chelsea Zahner.  Heather reported that we played well and improved on our score from last year against a very good Columbia City team.

The Railroader Volleyball team dominated the Churubusco Eagles  in 3 straight games.  The first two games were not even close 25-13, 25-12.  We lost a little focus early in the 3rd game but came back from a large deficit to win 25-22.  The girls are really on a roll now with a 2-1 record.

The Football team faces cross county rival Eastside Blazers tomorrow night with a kickoff the kickoff at 7pm.  The cross country teams run a team relay event called a "Hokem Karem".  Come out to the cross country course to witness a preseason showcase of some top area cross country teams.

Great Night!

The Boys Soccer team defeated the Wayne Generals tonight at home by a score of 4-3. Trent Leverenz scored all 4 goals! How amazing is that.  A Hat trick plus one, or as the Director of Soccer Operations said "A Turkey!"  Great game Coach K and Boys Soccer team. The game was exciting from the first 15 seconds to the very end!

The girls lost 3-2 at Wayne. But, we out shot the Lady Generals 29-12.  I heard Heather House had one of the goals.  Don't know who had the other.  Good effort, just need to finish!

AND Head Coach Sallie Richardson got her first coaching win as Head Coach at GHS.  The Lady Railroaders got a big win in 5 games AT Prairie Heights.

As always, we can be proud of our kids and how hard they work.  The work in the weight room, in the summer, and out of season always pays off in the end.

ROLL BIG TRAIN!

Scoring Updates

Garrett Boys Soccer team was defeated 3-0 by East Noble tonight.  Coach Klopfenstein was happy with the effort, but we didn't get any breaks.  We had 3 penalty kicks called against us.  The Boys are home against Wayne tomorrow while the Girls Soccer Team travels to Wayne.

The Girls Varsity Volleyball lost 3 straight matches to Dekalb tonight.  They were very competitive in games 1 and 3.  Both first and last games were lost in "Overtime".  We seemed to lose focus in game two.  No rest for the VB team as they travel to Prairie Heights to take on the Lady Panthers tomorrow night.

The Railroaders "Harriers" will host 10 schools in the annual Hokum Karem Cross Country meet.  That race will be Saturday morning starting at 9am.  For those of you who do not know what a "Hokum Karem" is.  It is a special relay style cross country meet.  2 person teams will alternate running 1.5 mile loops.  Team scores are kept by keeping cummulative times for the two-person teams.  It is the cross country version of a scrimmage.  We have hosted this meet for many years.  It features a great combination of NECC, ACAC, and NHC teams.

Good Luck to all the Railroader athletes as they start the 2010-2011 Athletic Year!  ROLL BIG TRAIN!

Great Start!

Volleyball had a great Scrimmage verses  Eastside tonight.  Coach Richardson and Webb had done a great job preparing the team for the season.  I am excited for them to start the season.  We have  developed a great volleyball coaching staff from 6th grade on up.   The level of experience of this staff is great.  Sherri Parker is volunteering for 6th grade.  Julie DePew, recently hired to fill the PE/Health Position in the High School and former Garrett Graduate, will be coaching 7th grade.  She has great high school coaching experience and will be a great asset.  Tammy Smith is back to coach the 8th grade.  She also has great varsity and high school coaching experience. Jesse Webb doesn't have the volleyball experience but does have a great coaching background. Coach Richardson was a 3 sport athlete in college.  That is amazing! Not too many people could handle that.  She is a very talented teacher and coach. She comes from a Coaching Family and knows all of the positive and negative aspects about coaching.

Good Luck Coaches.  I can't wait to see the changes that will occur this year and in the future!  The teams face Dekalb next week.  Go Lady Railroader Volleyball Team!
