AUBURN AUCTION WEEKEND INFO!

This is the big weekend for the GHS Athletic Department.  We can always use more Adult workers. We need them particularly for Thursday and Friday afternoon 2:30-6:00 and also Saturday morning from 7:30-11:30.

All Workers are to report to the "Red Barn" located just to the East of the Main entrance to the Auburn Auction Park on County Road 11A. Please give yourself plenty of time due to the heavy traffic in the area. You can avoid the main traffic congestion on CR 11 A if you come to the meeting place from the East.

Thank You in advance for all your help. If you haven't signed up with a Coach, you can still come out to work.

Tuesday Scoreboard

Boys Soccer remained undefeated in the ACAC by defeating South Adams 6-0 tonight in Garrett.  This sets up a big show down with Leo on September 12th for what will more than likely be the Conference Championship. That game will be in Garrett. Put it on your schedule now and come out to support the Railroader Soccer team.

The Girls Soccer team was defeated tonight by the Lady Hornets of Angola. The team has been struggling this year. But, they are also overwhelmed with key injuries. They are working hard and need to keep their heads up. Better days are ahead!

Waiting for Volleyball score vs Carroll. (Another powerhouse volleyball program!)

Storming the Field in Style!

Rivalries can be ugly. Before our game last night I was talking the officiating crew about their experience with rivalries. They had some horror stories about fights and ugly games. NOT IN OUR HOUSE! Last night was a perfect example for the rest of the world how a rivalry can be positive.

Last night was one of the hardest hitting, well fought Football game, I have ever been to. We did have one unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on Dekalb. Not to give an excuse, but it came at a time they were getting really frustrated. It was a battle in the trenches but it was a clean battle.

The best part of the night wasn't the awesome play of our line, the great catch and interception by Jamison Wisel, the 6 touchdowns and record for Todd Frickey, or the ending of a 35 year drought against the Barons. The best part of the night was the character displayed by our student section when they stormed the field. They actually waited for the traditional midfield handshake before the celebrated with our team. No one gave them instructions, not one set it up ahead of time. They did it on their own because they are awesome. Now I've committed  to Sundaes for these senior girls on Tuesday. It's worth it!

Season Openers - VB - BSO!

The Boys Soccer team started the 2011-2012 Athletic season tonight hosting the Knights of East Noble High School. The game was close through the first half, but the young Railroaders were defeated by the final score of 4-1. The lone goal for the Railroaders was scored by Nathan Sliger.  The Boys Travel to Lakeland on Thursday. The varsity will play at 5pm and the JV boys will play a half of soccer after the Varsity game.

The Volleyball team hosted the Lady Barons of Dekalb High School tonight in the "Warm" Bateman gym. The Railroaders led by Jordyn Knott, Katie DePew, and Laura Moynahan dominated the Barons. The Lady Railroaders swept Dekalb in 3 games. We are not sure when Garrett last defeated the Barons. It has been a long time. What a great start to the season. But, there is no rest for the VB team as they host Prairie Heights tomorrow and then travel to Churubusco on Thursday. Congrats Coach Richardson and the Lady Railroaders!

Volleyball / Football Entrances / Team Pick-up and Drop-Off

Volleyball and Football Games Parking at GHS

The NEW Garrett High School construction project is well under way. With the new construction comes many challenges. One of those is parking for Athletic Events as well as athlete pick-up and drop off. All High School Volleyball  and Football games will be affected.  Below are the open entrances for Fall Athletic Events.

Volleyball -    The only entrance open for Varsity and JV Volleyball games will be door #10. This door is also known as the Performing Arts Center (PAC) entrance. There will be no entry at Door #3 North of the gym or at Door #23, the old “railroader track” entrance. Parking for the games will include the Performing Arts Center lot, the East middle school lot, and the Ober Faculty lot. ALL entry will be done through door #10. You will not be able to walk through the middle school to attend any high school athletic event.

Football – The entrance to Memorial Field for both visiting and home fans will be through the EAST gate at the field. Home fans will walk around the track to the North in order to get to the home side stands. Visitors and Home fans will use the same gate. Parking will be available in the Middle School South Lot, the Middle School East Lot,  the Performing Arts Center lot, and the Ober Elementary staff parking lot. Parking on Britton street will no longer be convenient for home fans as there will not be a gate on the North or West side of the field. Parking will not be allowed along the driveway off of Warfield Street. Overflow parking will be at the Soccer field across from the GKB Central Office.

Team Drop-off and Pick-up – Teams playing contests on the road will be dropped off on the North side of the school at Door #3. This entrance is accessible to parents from Houston street and is located between the Ober Elementary and the High School.

Athletic ticket prices for the 2011-2012 school year.

Parents may choose the option of working at athletic events or paying for their tickets. If parents choose to work for their tickets, they must work 8 events to earn a family pass, 3 events for an adult ticket, or 2 events for a student ticket. Events fill up quickly and parents are advised not to wait. Events will be assigned on a first come first served basis. Athletic Director Steve Rhoades says “This program is a great way to ease the financial burden on parents while helping the athletic department. It takes a large number of workers to host an athletic contest and we count on this program to fulfill our needs.

Worker signup and Big Train Ticket sales will begin on August 10, 2011 in the high school office during registration. Registration times are 10am – 1pm and 4pm-8pm on August 10th and 11th .

Soap Scrimmage

REMINDER:

The Varsity Football Soap Scrimmage is on Monday, August 8th at Memorial Field. BUT,

Remember, with the New Construction you must park in the Middle School parking lot and enter the VISITORS gate.  You will still view the game from the Home stands. You will follow the track around to the Home Side Bleachers.  This will be true for ALL REGULAR SEASON FOOTBALL GAMES. Parking will be in the middle school lot south of the middle school, east of the middle school, the PAC lot, and the lot East of the Elementary.

It is going to be inconvenient to park on Britton Street because there will not be an entrance on the North or West side of the field. The Team Gate will be open for Big Train tickets for Varsity games only, but will not sell individual game tickets. So, you will still need to walk around to the VISITORS GATE.

Yes, it is inconvenient. But it is a small price to pay during the construction of our NEW High School.
