Ok, we finished up the Boys Sectional Championship on March 5th. I'm sure a lot of you are asking what goes on in the Athletic Department between seasons. One thing we get to do is go home after school YEAH! We actually get to bed at a reasonable hour and we actually get to spend a weekend with the Grandkids!
However, Athletic work does not stop. As a matter of fact, we are working full steam ahead on the Spring Sports season. We can't wait until the first game to get things ready. The first thing we do is verify we have valid contracts for every spring event. Yes, we have signed contract between schools for ALL athletic contests. They are valid contracts with real consequences for not fullfilling the agreements. We verify WHERE the event is scheduled and WHEN it is scheduled to begin. We request bus transportation for every game and verify officials have been hired.
We will clean out all the indoor concession stands and transfer all of our supplies to baseball, softball, and track. We are trying to make sure we have workers at every varsity or jv baseball and softball games. We need workers for every track meet and we have to verify officials for all of these events. This spring we will host both the High School and Middle School Conference Track meets. We will also host our Girls Softball Invite, Varsity Baseball Invite, and the Girls Softball Sectional. Once the season begins is not the time to plan these events. We have to get it done between now and the first home event of the Spring Season. This year we have had to make major adjustments to our jv baseball and jv softball schedules. That means contacting all of our contracted officials and workers to make sure they are aware of the changes.
We also take a look at our Spring equipment. We replace what is broken and repair what we can. We have to get the baseball and softball fields ready to play and the field event areas of the track ready for competition.
Once practices begin, we have to check rosters to make sure all the athletes are eligible academically and have turned in all the appropriate forms.
And last but certainly not least...............SPRING BREAK IN FLORIDA WITH THE FAMILY AND GRANDKIDS (at least most of them!)
So if you walk by the Athletic Department and expect to see Becky and I playing solitaire ........Think again. I don't even have a deck of cards! No rest for the weary!
