Garrett hosted the first round of the IHSAA Class 2A Sectional #36 tournament tonight in the Bateman Gymnasium and as usual everything went off like clock work. That has nothing to do with me, but has everything to do with a great group of Railroader Faithful who love to work this tournament. We had over 40 workers doing their part to make sure the tournament games were run with class. Everybody comments about how they love to play at Garrett. We love to host them and show our Railroader Pride.
The first round games were played without the Railroaders as we drew the bye game and will play the first game on Friday night. In game #1 tonight a scrappy Fremont team was defeated by Churubusco. But, even though the victory was double figures, Fremont had several leads and had it down to 3 points in the closing minutes of the game. The final score was 59-49, Churubusco.
The 2nd game of the night was another close battle between NECC foes. Prairie Heights and Eastside. Once again, on paper, Eastside should have been soundly defeated. But, Eastside had control of this game at the half and fought back and forth in the second half. Prairie Heights prevailed with a final score of 45-42.
Garrett will face off with the Busco Eagles in game #1 on Friday night. Even though the team has changed since we defeated Churubusco a couple of weeks ago, I am confident we can defeat them again. In game #2 Prairie Heights will play Central Noble to set up the Championship game on Saturday.
Good Luck Railroaders, Bring home another Sectional Title!
