Two Different Games

The Lady Railroaders started out the game tonight 5-0. Then the host Lady Lions ran off 12 straight points to take the lead. But the Railroaders fought back to within one point at halftime, down 27-28. The Railroaders shot 50% from the Field, 56% from the Free Throw line and had 8 turnovers. BUT, then came the second half.
We committed 11 turnovers and only shot 29% from the field. Leo shot 33% the first half and 48% the second half and had only 8 turnovers the entire game. Garrett shot a season low 60% from the free throw line while Leo shot 83%. That was too much for the Railroaders to overcome and Garrett lost it's first ACAC game by the score of 39-60.

The girls will try it again next week when they travel to Adams Central next Friday Night. The Boys play at Fremont next Tuesday night. The only home event next week is the Railroader Matmen when they host Leo next Thursday Night.

Close One!

At certain points in the game tonight, the Railroaders looked like they would walk away with the easy win. But , a very talented and Athletic Woodlan team just wouldn't go away. The Railroaders "eeked" out the victory over Woodlan 62-59. Statistically the game was as close as the final score.  The Railroaders shot a season low 40% from the field while Woodlan shot 45%. Garrett shot 72% from the free throw line and Woodlan 71%. We had 14 turnovers to 19 for the Warriors. Probably the key stat to the victory was we committed only 9 fouls and Woodlan only took 7 free throws while the Railroaders shot 18 and made 13. That was the difference in the game.

Leading the team tonight was Drake Landes with 24 points, Joe Martin with 14 points, Brandon Porter with 11 points and Todd Frickey with 8 points. Todd led the team with 4 steals and Joe led the rebounding with 7.

The Railroaders travel to Fremont on Tuesday to take on the Eagles. Good Luck Railroaders!

Congrats Todd and Austin!

Todd Frickey and Austin Gibson were notified today they are recipients of All-State Football Honors. Both of the players were key to our success this year. Congratulations on your honors!

Every Cloud has a Silver Lining!

Ok, I know it's a little cliche. But, in every loss a team needs to find some good things to talk about. Coaches need to take losses and use them to build on. Tonight the Railroaders were defeated by South Adams in an important early season Wrestling match. We had some kids wrestle pretty well, only to make some costly mistakes. Many of those mistakes ended up in Pins.  The Starfires had numerous pins. Garrett was led by two major decisions by Austin Gibson and Austin McCray. Hayden Lee also won a key match against a very tough opponent at 113. We were also happy to see Brayden wrestle his first match of the season and come out with a win. Travis Carunchia also ended up with a victory.

After going 2 - 3 this weekend, the Railroaders are now 3 - 3 on the season with one loss in the ACAC. The Starfires have another good team this year and they will be a force in the ACAC and IHSAA tournament. We have several things we can learn from tonight and I am sure Coach Fielden and his staff will make sure we improve.

The team will travel to Snider next Tuesday and then host it's next ACAC match next Thursday. Good Luck Wrestlers!
