Busy Cold Weather Night for GHS!

What a night. Remember about a month ago when the weather was setting record High temperatures every day. Remember March? It was the warmest March on record. Boy, how things have changed! It was downright cold tonight for all our activities. We hosted our first ACAC track meet of the year between the Railroaders, AC Jets, and the SA Starfires. The boys lost South Adams 69, Adams Central 58, Garrett -29. Even though we lost Coach Clifford was happy how several athletes stepped up to help with cover some injuries. Drake Landes got 1st place in long jump. We got ends in the 3200 relay (Cody Rowe, Conner Foster,, Jordan Lantz, and Kendall Slabaugh), Jaron Somers 1600, 3200, Patrick Chester - HJ, Drake Landes - 300 hurdles, and Robert Deventer Discus.

The girls meet was VERY Close. The girls also had some great efforts from unexpected places. These girls weren't seeded and did a great job: Bailey Sutton, CC Martinez, Alaina Creager, Lundse Gibson, and the 4x100 team. Jordyn Knot got 1st place in HJ, LJ, and the 200. Brandi Dawson won the 400. Emma Riedly and Ariel McCoy also ran well tonight. The finals score was SA-55, GHS-52, and AC-49. The girls was just 3 points from the sweep. Great work Coaches and Runners.

The Garrett Golfers were also out in the wind and cold. They lost another close match 181-173 vs cross county rival Dekalb. Bennett Rieke had a great score (38) considering the cold weather . He was the medalist. Karsten Cooper had a 45, Cameron Stockdale had a 49, Noah Getts also had a 49, and Jake Stafford had a 50. Zach sarrizne had a great score of 43 on the JV. Baseball made the long trip to Nappanee to take on Northwood High School. The final score was 3-0. Coach Mireles said we ran ourselves our of innings, making too many base running mistakes. He was also not happy with our approaches at the plate, too many strikeouts. He said we need to have better mental approaches offensively.

That wraps up a long night in GHS Sports. The weather can only get better and I'm sure our athletes will also get better. The season is just getting started and we are working to win some hardware. Keep up the good work GHS!
