Golf the LONE Bright Spot tonight!

Boys Golf

The Garrett Golf team continued their march toward a regular season championship tonight at home. It was Senior Night for Bennett Rieke, Cameron Stockdale, Jacob Stafford, and Noah Getts. These 4 seniors have been the backbone of our team for the last 4 years. They all have lettered 4 years and contributed to our first and only ACAC Golf Championship. We are VERY proud of them and their contributions. The team soundly defeated the ACAC competition tonight. Here are the results and comments from Coach Kleeman: "

For everyone else it was not a good night for our Athletic Teams. Where do I start? We were defeated at Baseball, Softball, and Track. Nobody got a "W" tonight except the golfers.

Boys Track
Garrett 58 - Heritage 65 -- Here are the comments from Coach Clifford:

"Proud of the boys tonight. We have continued to face adversity with the injuries and tonight we     started to show more toughness through the adversity! We put ourselves in a position to win at the end of the meet. It came down to the 4x400 relay..... unfortunately we did not win that race even though we shaved 5 second off our best time of the season."

1st Place winners - Jaron Somers - 800, 1600, and 3200; Todd Frickey - 100, 200, 400; Frake Landes - long jump; Robert Deventer - discus; Jordan Lantz, Connor Fostor, Kendall Slabaugh, Jaron Somers 4x800.

2nd Place finishers - Kendall Slabaugh - 800; Jordan Lantz - 3200; Connor Meehan - shotput.

Girls Track
Coach Lapadots comments: "We were horrible as a team tonight and got beat by 5 points. We were not focused or ready to run. Jordyn Knott won High Jump, Long Jump, and 200m. Ariel McCoy won the 1600 and 3200. The 4x800 team of Becca Oliver, Kelsi Winebrenner, Amanda Stump, and Ariel McCoy ran a 10:59 winning the race. Laura Moynahan won the shot put and discus."

Baseball
The Baseball team lost a very tough game to ACAC conference foe Leo tonight here in Garrett. The final score was 12-2 in 6 innings. Brett Schendel took the loss. It was a combination of giving up to much offense to the Lions and not getting much offense for the Railroaders. Leo hit the ball often and hit it hard. Like the girls track team we just lost focus tonight. We are a good team. We just didn't play like it tonight.

Softball
Just like Baseball the Lady Railroaders lost a tough game to Leo. This one was more of a heartbreaker. The final score was 4-2 and the Lady Lions had 3 unearned runs. We are a young team, but we have to understand we can compete with anyone if we play like we are capable. We just can't make mistakes against good teams like Leo. They will always capitalize and make you pay for it.

Here are Coach Bishop's comments: "After last nights aggressive play we were hoping for more of the same tonight and really didn't get it, both on offense and defense. We came out and after a lead off double from Leo , we missed played an outfield ball. That was followed by 2 more hits which resulted in 3 runs and only 1 earned run. We held them until the 5th inning when we had another error which scored giving them 4 total for the game. On the offense we had only 4 hits, led by Katie DePew with 2.  One of those was an rbi double in the 3rd which drove in Ashley Morris, who had doubled to start the inning. In the 6th, DePew started the inning and was driven in by Annessa Smith with a double of her own. Consistency remains a problem and perhaps better pre game preperation would help. We will address this in practice tomorrow. Honestly after scorching the ball last night the coaches were hoping that the players would be excited to go to the plate tonight and that didn't happen. Brit Yarian pitched a good game allowing 4 runs on 6 hits, walking 1, and striking out 7. A few mental errors on defense really hurt. Next up Adams Central there on Thursday and then New Haven here on Friday night. "
