We played hard. We played smart. We played with passion. It just wasn't enough. The Garrett Boys Soccer team fell to Lakewood Park tonight in the first round of the IHSAA Sectional Tournament. The final score was 3-2. Garrett scored first and led the entire first half 1-0. Then we had a breakdown for about 11 minutes and LP scored 3 unanswered goals. With about 7 minutes left Garrett regained there composure and made the score 3-2. We had several chances in the last few minutes. We just couldn't get a score.
I am so proud of this team. They have certainly raised the standard for GHS Soccer. The most wins in a season. The first winning season. The first ACAC Conference Championship. All the way around they have been fun to watch. I ache for the seniors and had the opportunity to talk to them after the game. i wanted them to know the program has been built with their hard work. I talked to the under classmen and told them to remember this feeling and use it to work hard in the off season, particularly in the weight room. Congrats to the Coaching staff. What a great group of coaches we have. Our pride for this program is not just when we win. It is all the time win, lose, or tie!
Thank-you AD Rhoades for taking a few moments after the game to talk with the seniors and let them know they are appreciated for what they've brought to the program.
ReplyDeleteThese young men could have shut down after the third LP goal but they didn't. It's tough to lose, but I think it's maybe a little better to never quit. Here is wishing next year's team the greatest success.
