Garrett Wrestling Results - Al Smith Tournament!

I just got the final results from the two day Al Smith tournament in Mishawaka. The Railroaders had a great tournament. As I've mentioned in the past, this tournament is one of the premier tournaments in the midwest and certainly the state. We have been waiting for quite some time to participate. Here is the information received from Coach Fielden and Caprino:

We finished 12th as a team, one point from 11th and even finished ahead of the state runner-up team from last year!  We had five placers and here is a recap of their tournament.
Hayden Lee 3rd Place at 106lbs
Hayden was seeded 3rd and finished 3rd.  He made it to the semi-finals where he lost in overtime.  He bounced back and won two matches to finish in 3rd place.
Austun McCray 7th Place at 132lbs
Austun was seeded 8th and finished above his seed.  He lost to the champion and battled him the whole match.  He was 4-2 for the tournament.
Kyle Lanning 8th Place at 152lbs
Lanning was unseeded and major decisioned the 7th seed in the second round.  He battled hard on the second day losing two close matches.
Austin Gibson 3rd Place at 195lbs
Austin had a great tournament going 6-1 and only losing to the champion by one point.  He was seeded 6th and beat many tough opponents including pulling out his last two victories in overtime.
Last but NOT least….
Travis Carunchia 5th Place at 220lbs
Travis entered the tournament unseeded and lost first round to the eventual champion.  He battled back on Wednesday winning FOUR straight matches just to advance to the second day.  He then went 2-1 today to finish in 5th place.  He went 6-2 on the tournament including FIVE pins!

That's quite impressive and we can be very proud of our efforts.
