It's never easy to win on the road and in Boys Basketball it's even harder to win on the road in the middle of the week. The Railroader crowd was a little thin at Bellmont, but the Boys defeated the Braves 62-58 tonight in Decatur. (Really it was 62-55 but a Bellmont player hit a 3/4 court 3 pointer at the buzzer to make it 58 points)
The team really played one of their best games of the year both defensively and offensively. The Railroaders were a major disruption to the Braves and never really let the hosts get into any kind of offensive rhythm. Yet, the Railroaders had a great night on offense with 4 players in double figures. Drake Landes got back on track after a tough game on the road last week at Fremont. He led the team with 16 points. Brandon Porter had an equally impressive night with 15 points. Joe Martin also got back on track with 14 points and the surprise of the night was Todd Frickey with 13 points. 11 of those points came in the first half. When Todd can hit shots, it really opens things up for the rest of the team. We were out rebounded tonight because Bellmont had a serious height advantage. But we forced a lot of turnovers with our pressure and the Braves didn't get too many clean shots.
The Boys team ends 2011 with two home games starting on Friday night when we host the Leo Lions. Then on Tuesday, the boys host Angola. Coach Bodey and the team will get a little time off before we start back again in January.
NOTE : Tomorrow is the ACAC tournament Draw. The draw is at 12:30 in Decatur. I will post the results of the draw as soon as I can. Everyone needs to pray hard for hosting the first round. We have never hosted the first round and we usually have to travel to South Adams or Southern Wells. WE WANT TO PLAY AT HOME!
